Ongoing Projects
Within our various community development projects, we place a particular emphasis on improving access to education, a key pillar for a better future.
The Construction of Lycée Edmond LaForest
In 2023, Good Samaritan Community Action Inc. launched an ambitious and transformative project to construct Lycée Edmond Laforest, a modern high school in the community of Grande Source, La Gonâve, Haiti. This initiative was driven by a strong commitment to expanding educational opportunities for young people and addressing the significant challenges many families face in accessing quality secondary education.
For decades, students in Grande Source and surrounding communities encountered major obstacles in pursuing their academic goals. Limited educational infrastructure, long travel distances, and financial hardships prevented many talented young people from continuing their education beyond the primary level. Recognizing that education is the foundation of sustainable development and economic progress, Good Samaritan Community Action Inc. envisioned a school that would provide hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for generations to come.
Lycée Edmond Laforest was designed to accommodate approximately 400 students in a safe, modern, and supportive learning environment. The facility features spacious classrooms, administrative offices, and educational resources that foster academic excellence, critical thinking, and personal growth. By creating a space where students can learn, collaborate, and develop essential skills, the school serves as a catalyst for positive change throughout the region.

The impact of this project extends far beyond the construction of a building. The school represents a long-term investment in human potential. It empowers young men and women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to pursue higher education, secure meaningful employment, and become leaders within their communities. Increased access to secondary education contributes to poverty reduction, improved quality of life, and greater economic stability for families across La Gonâve.
The construction of Lycée Edmond Laforest also demonstrates the power of community partnership and collective action. Through the generosity of donors, volunteers, supporters, and local stakeholders, a shared vision became a reality. Every contribution to the project helped create opportunities for hundreds of students who previously had limited access to quality secondary education.
After two years of planning, fundraising, and construction, Lycée Edmond Laforest officially opened its doors in October 2025. The opening marked a historic milestone for Grande Source and the entire island of La Gonâve. Students, parents, community leaders, and supporters gathered to celebrate the realization of a dream that had long been anticipated. The inauguration of the school stood as a testament to hope, resilience, and the belief that every child deserves access to quality education.
Today, Lycée Edmond Laforest is more than a school. It is a beacon of hope and a symbol of progress for the people of La Gonâve. By providing educational opportunities to approximately 400 students, the institution is helping to shape the next generation of leaders, professionals, and changemakers who will contribute to the development and prosperity of Haiti. The school’s success demonstrates the transformative power of education and the lasting impact that dedicated organizations and communities can achieve when they work together toward a common goal.

Build a Modern Computer Lab to Empower Underprivileged Students
The establishment of a modern computer lab will provide underprivileged students with access to technology, digital resources, and essential computer skills needed to succeed in today’s increasingly digital world. The lab will serve as a learning hub where students can develop proficiency in computer literacy, research, coding, online learning, and other technology-based skills that are critical for academic achievement and future employment opportunities.
Equipped with modern computers, high-speed internet access, educational software, and multimedia learning tools, the computer lab will create an engaging and inclusive learning environment. Students who may not have access to technology at home will be able to complete school assignments, participate in online learning programs, explore career pathways, and gain valuable digital competencies.
This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, promote educational equity, and prepare young people to become productive and competitive members of the workforce. By investing in a modern computer lab, we are investing in the future of our youth, empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive in the 21st-century economy.
A modern computer lab is more than a room with computers; it is a gateway to opportunity, innovation, and a brighter future for every student it serves.
Build a Modern Library
A modern library should be designed with innovative technologies that reflect the demands of the information age. By integrating digital resources, interactive learning spaces, smart systems, and advanced research tools, the library can significantly enhance students’ engagement in digital literacy and online research. This transformative learning environment will equip students with critical thinking, information management, and technological skills that are essential for academic success and lifelong learning. Ultimately, it will empower students to become valuable contributors to their communities and highly competitive candidates in the evolving job market.

Build a Multipurpose Gymnasium
A multipurpose gymnasium will provide a modern and flexible space that supports a wide range of school and community activities. Designed to accommodate physical education classes, sports competitions, fitness programs, school events, assemblies, and community gatherings, it will promote students’ physical well-being, teamwork, and personal development. This facility will serve as a vibrant hub for learning, recreation, and social engagement, fostering a stronger connection between the school and the wider community.
Build a Modern Cafeteria
A modern cafeteria will provide students with a safe, welcoming, and comfortable environment where they can enjoy nutritious, well-balanced meals that support their overall health, well-being, and academic performance. Designed to promote healthy eating habits, the cafeteria will offer a variety of nutritious food options that meet students’ dietary needs while encouraging informed food choices and lifelong wellness practices.
More than just a dining space, the cafeteria will serve as a central gathering place where students can socialize, relax, and build positive relationships with their peers and teachers. The facility will feature efficient food service systems, hygienic preparation areas, and comfortable seating arrangements that create an enjoyable dining experience for all.
By fostering healthy nutrition, social interaction, and student well-being, the cafeteria will contribute to a positive school culture and help students develop the healthy habits necessary for lifelong success.
